MBA Hospital and Health Care Management Exam Pattern

The examination pattern of MBA Hospital and Health Care Management course is described below, and is an overview of the current trends in the leading universities of India in the year 2025. This outline copes with various institutions such as Jamia Millia Islamia, Symbiosis (SIHS), etc., and a few differences in the assessment scale or format have been permitted.

Components

Details

Core Theory Exams

End-semester written papers in core management and healthcare subjects; generally 70–80 marks each, 3 hours duration; question types include essays, case studies, short notes, MCQs.

Internal Assessment

Continuous assessment through assignments, presentations, quizzes, classroom participation, mid-term tests, and attendance—usually 20–30% of total marks per subject.

Practical/Skill Courses

Certain semesters include practicals, skill-based papers, industry workshops, and simulations (e.g., hospital visits, IT labs, business games), assessed through reports and performance.

Electives & Specializations

Advanced electives (e.g., Hospital Accreditation, Health Informatics, Public Health) are usually offered in later semesters, following the same evaluation pattern as core courses.

Project/Dissertation/Internship

A comprehensive industry internship, live project, or dissertation is mandatory in the final year, assessed through a written report (external) and viva/presentation (internal and/or external examination).

Question Paper Structure

Exam papers typically combine long-answer essays, case scenarios, data analysis, short/definition-based items, and sometimes objective MCQs; all units of the syllabus are covered.

Exam Duration

Both theory and practical exams are conducted over 2–3 hours per paper as per the university/college scheme.

  • The grades are divided between the assignments, project work, mid-semester tests, and participation in the classes, which helps to maintain active work throughout the course.
  • Training consists of internships in a hospital, simulated and live projects with regular lectures of industry experts who may visit and give workshops. Evaluation focuses on submissions and viva-voce.
  • The final component is a full-year project (Written report + industry internship/live project or dissertation) which is assessed both through a written report and an oral (viva/presentation) assessment.
  • Majority of the universities insist on a minimum of 75% attendance as the precondition of eligibility to sit in the semester-ending examinations.
  • Both internal and external evaluation normally requires a minimum of 40% to 45% marks to pass each paper.
  • After the third semester, students generally choose electives in advanced areas of healthcare (e.g., Quality Management, Digital Health, Supply Chain) where they are each accompanied by their own paper and project format.
  • Project or dissertation and viva may collectively count on the basis of final term credits and hospital internship/fieldwork is usually officially graded.
  • The program syllabus will seek to integrate knowledge with practice, ensuring that the graduates are qualified to work in hospitals, insurance, consulting, and public health, pharma, etc. as managers and leaders. In precise marking and variations of universities, the students should refer to their departmental or institutional notifications.
