The CSIR NET Cutoff 2025 has been released on the official portal at csirhrdg.res.in. Candidates can download the subject-wise and category-wise cutoff directly from the website. The cutoff is published separately for three categories: Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Lectureship/Assistant Professor, and PhD-only. For the General and EWS categories, the minimum qualifying marks are 33%. For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, the minimum qualifying marks are 28%, and for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the threshold is 25%.

The cutoff will also be released separately for the CSIR NET June 2026 session after the result declaration. The 2025 and earlier year data provided on this page can help candidates get a realistic sense of expected score ranges for JRF and Lectureship positions across all five subjects.

CSIR NET Cutoff 2025: Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying marks are the floor threshold below which a candidate cannot qualify for any category, regardless of other performance. Clearing the minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee admission or fellowship; actual cutoffs for JRF and Lectureship are typically much higher. The category-wise minimum qualifying marks are given below.

CSIR NET Cutoff 2025: Category-wise Cutoff

The CSIR NET Cutoff 2025 for the June session has been released. The cutoff is published separately for JRF (Category 1), Lectureship/Assistant Professor (Category 2), and PhD-only (Category 3). Students must note that Life Science cutoffs are percentile scores, not percentage marks. The tables below show the confirmed cutoff marks for all five subjects and categories.

Factors Determining CSIR NET Cutoff

The CSIR NET cutoff shifts every year based on several variables. Understanding these factors helps candidates interpret their scores and set realistic expectations.

• Number of registered candidates: A larger applicant pool generally leads to a more competitive cutoff.

• Candidates' raw scores and percentile distribution: The spread of scores across all candidates directly affects where the cutoff is set for each category.

• Difficulty level of the exam: A harder paper results in lower raw scores across the board, which typically brings the cutoff down.

• Candidate category: Each category (UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, PwD) has a separate cutoff, and candidates compete within their own pool.

• Previous year cutoff trends: NTA uses historical data as a reference while setting the qualifying marks for the current year.

CSIR NET Cutoff 2025 FAQs

When was the CSIR NET Cutoff 2025 released?

The CSIR NET Cutoff 2025 was released on September 4, 2025, along with the result for the June 2025 session.

What are the CSIR NET 2025 cutoffs for each subject (JRF)?

For the UR category, the JRF cutoffs are 50.75% for Chemical Science, 61.29% for Earth Science, 51.50 percentile for Life Science, 53.375% for Mathematical Science, and 51.188% for Physical Science.

What are the minimum qualifying marks for CSIR NET 2025?

The minimum qualifying marks are 33% for General and EWS candidates, 28% for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, and 25% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. These are the minimum thresholds to qualify, not the actual subject cutoffs for JRF or Lectureship.

Why are Life Science cutoffs so high compared to other subjects?

Life Science cutoffs are expressed as percentile scores, not percentage marks. A score of 99% means the candidate scored higher than 99% of all test-takers in that shift. This is not comparable to the percentage marks used for other subjects.

What factors determine the CSIR NET cutoff?

Key factors include the total number of candidates registered, their raw scores and percentile distribution, the difficulty level of the exam, candidate categories, and previous year cutoff trends.

Is the CSIR NET cutoff the same for JRF and Lectureship?

No. The JRF cutoff is higher than the Lectureship cutoff across all subjects and categories. The PhD-only cutoff is the lowest among the three. All three cutoffs are published in the same PDF, separately for each subject and category.

What should candidates do if they do not meet the CSIR NET Cutoff 2025?

Candidates who do not meet the cutoff for their category and subject are not eligible for the current session. They can retake the exam in the next session, as there is no limit on the number of attempts for the Lectureship or PhD categories.

Will the CSIR NET Cutoff 2026 be similar to 2025?

The cutoff for 2026 will depend on the difficulty level of the June 2026 exam, the number of candidates, and the seat availability. While 2025 data serves as a reference, the actual 2026 cutoff may vary. Candidates should use 2024 and 2025 data together for a more realistic estimate.

Is the CSIR NET cutoff the same for all subjects?

No. Each subject has its own cutoff, which varies by category and award type (JRF, Lectureship, PhD). Earth Science typically has the highest percentage cutoff among the non-Life-Science subjects, while Physical Science tends to have the lowest.
