IIT Bombay has complete and fully furnished hostel facilities in a total of 18 hostels, both boys and girls. The Hostel Coordinating Unit (HCU) manages the hostels and provides administrative functions and a safe and fair living environment. Students normally occupy rooms together and the situation changes to single rooms as the student progresses. The hostels have all the necessary facilities including beds, study tables, cupboards, fans, and LAN connections, and shared recreation facilities including TV rooms, indoor games (chess and carrom) and laundry and gym facilities. Hostel fees are made up of rent, electricity, water, mess advance, and security deposits that students pay on a per semester basis.

IIT Bombay Hostel Fee Structure

The IIT Bombay hostel fee structure of academic year 2025-26 consists of many parts including electricity and water charges, hostel establishment charges, hostel rent, mess establishment charges, and hostel amenities fund. These charges pay for basic hostel housing, basic utilities, maintenance, and food services and will endeavor to ensure an environment that is comfortable and conducive to the living conditions. Some students are not required to stay in the hostel but usually prefer to stay in the hostel to enjoy the whole campus experience.

The cumulative total hostel fee is INR 16,900. This fee covers accommodation, basic utilities, and maintenance of hostel facilities.

 

IIT Bombay Hostel: Mess Fees and Total Payable Amount

Alongside hostel charges, students are required to pay a per semester mess advance amounting to INR 22,500. This advance is utilized to cover the cost of meals provided in the hostel mess throughout the semester, ensuring balanced and hygienic food services.

 

Consequently, the total fees payable per semester (hostel + mess advance) amounts to INR 39,400, combining lodging and dining expenditures. The IIT Bombay hostel fee provide a transparent breakdown of financial commitments for students opting to stay in the IIT Bombay hostels, facilitating clear financial planning and access to necessary residential amenities.
