NIT Rourkela UG Admission 2025

NIT Rourkela offers B.Tech and B.Arch programs at the undergraduate level. The institute provides a four-year B.Tech program across 14 engineering specialisations. Admissions to the B.Tech and B.Arch programs are based on JEE Main scores, followed by JoSAA or CSAB counselling. From 2025 onwards, foreign nationals, NRIs, OCIs, and CIWG candidates must apply through the unified DASA + CSAB-Special portal atcsab.nic.in, as the DASA scheme has been merged into a common platform. NIT Rourkela offers a two-year M.Tech program with specialisations. Additionally, candidates can register in five-year dual degree programs (B.Tech + M.Tech). NIT Rourkela Eligibility 2025

Courses in engineering, science, architecture, management, and the humanities are available at the institute. CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf) candidates are eligible under the DASA scheme if their parents are employed in designated Gulf countries. The eligibility and selection requirements for each course must be met by applicants. From 2025 onwards, JEE Main Paper 2A scores will be used for admission to the B.Arch program. NATA is not required for NIT Rourkela.

NIT Rourkela Seat Categories Under DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds 2025

For 2025 admissions, candidates will be allotted seats based on specific categories defined under the DASA and CSAB-Special rounds. Understanding these categories is crucial for determining your eligibility, reservation benefits, and applicable seat quotas.

 

Seat Categories under DASA 2025

  • DASA (Non-SAARC): Students from all countries except SAARC nations. NRIs are also included in this category.
  • DASA (SAARC): Students from SAARC countries (excluding India) such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
  • CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf): NRIs whose parents work in Gulf countries — UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia.

Note: CIWG seats form approximately one-third of the total DASA seats.

 

Seat Categories under CSAB-Special 2025

From 2025 onwards, all seat allotment (including DASA and CSAB-Special) will happen through the CSAB online system, with merged choice filling and result display. However, DASA and CSAB-Special rounds remain separate in terms of fees, seat categories, and eligibility rules.

  • OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST: Standard reservation-based categories.
  • PwD (Persons with Disabilities): Available within each category.
  • Female Supernumerary Seats: Additional seats reserved for female candidates.
  • Reservation benefits are applicable only under CSAB-Special and not in DASA.

 

NIT Rourkela Admission Process 2025

NIT Rourkela follows a structured admission process for its UG, PG, and Ph.D programs. The process includes registration for entrance exams, participation in counselling rounds, merit list announcements, and final seat allotment.

  • Candidates must register for the relevant entrance exams such as JEE Main (B.Tech), GATE (M.Tech), IIT JAM (M.Sc), or CAT (MBA), depending on the course.
  • For B.Tech, students must also register for JoSAA counselling after JEE Main results are declared.
  • M.Tech applicants should register for CCMT counselling, while M.Sc aspirants must apply through CCMN counselling based on their IIT JAM scores.
  • MBA applicants must apply directly on the official NIT Rourkela website with valid CAT/MAT/XAT scores; shortlisted candidates are invited for a personal interview (PI) round.
  • MA and Ph.D aspirants are required to apply directly on the institute’s portal; selection is based on written tests and/or interviews.
  • From 2025, foreign nationals, NRIs, OCIs, and CIWG candidates must apply via the unified DASA + CSAB-Special portal (https://csab.nic.in), with registration starting from 30 July 2025.
  • After the entrance test results, the respective counselling bodies release cutoffs and conduct the seat allotment rounds.
  • For MBA, the institute releases merit lists post-PI round.

  • Aspiring B.Tech students can register for JoSAA counselling after submitting an application on the JEE Main website.
  • Candidates must register on GATE's official website in order to be considered for the M.Tech program. Candidates must register on the official website for the remaining courses.
  • Candidates must apply to IIT JAM via the official website of the relevant conducting body in order to be admitted to an M.Sc program.
  • Candidates must download the application form from the institute's official website in order to be considered for admission to the MBA program.
  • For DASA and CSAB-Special rounds, visit the unified portal athttps://csab.nic.in, where registration for both schemes begins from 30 July 2025. Candidates can choose to participate in DASA, CSAB-Special, or both.
