• Updated on  Aug 01, 2025, by Vasudha Sharma

BVSc full form is Bachelor of Veterinary Science, which is a 5.5 pre-professional course to become a veterinarian and look after animals as well as their husbandry. The BVSc admission in the top BVSc colleges is mostly based on an entrance examination, NEET-UG being the most well-accepted national-level examination.

The candidates must have passed 10+2 with subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as their core subjects with an aggregate of 50% marks. In addition to NEET, there are a few state-level Entrance Exams like RPVT, UP Veterinary Entrance Exam, AAU VET, and OUAT. Once the candidates qualify for these exams, they take part in centralised counselling such as the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) counselling or State-wise counselling, and seats are allocated on a merit basis, reservation policy, and preferences. Candidates are required to enclose records such as mark sheets, entrance examination results, ID proofs, and caste certificates (in case applicable).

BVSc Admission FAQs

Is Bachelor's in Veterinary Science possible without NEET?

The admission to some private BVSc colleges in India could be under management or direct admissions quota, respectively, but, as per the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) rules, the candidates cannot take admission in BVSc without NEET. This implies that there is no way the candidates can secure a valid BVSc without the NEET exam in the majority of the recognized institutions. NEET attendance and minimum scores are usually required even if the candidates want to take admission through management quota seats.

Is BVSc better than MBBS?

MBBS provides better earning opportunities and a wider clinical career domain, whereas the BVSc is appropriate if one is inclined towards veterinary care and animal sciences, providing reasonable career opportunities in the field. Both require NEET to get admission and are also valid fields of profession, but have different interests and job demands.

What are the fees of BVSc in India?

The BVSc fees in India differ a lot both in government and private institutes. The gross tuition fees in the government BVSc colleges are between approximately INR 10000 and 200000, and in several well-known government institutions, the tuition fees are between INR 18000 and INR 3 lakhs annually.
