FAQs

Is there any flexible mode of fee payment like the semester-wise or instalment payments in M Sc in Physics program?

A majority of the government as well as most of the private colleges accept fees on semester basis. Other institutions also approve being on installment payments during a semester, so in case one is not able to pay on time; this can lead them not to be able to take examinations or even to enroll late. It is always advisable to check on the detailed schedule during admission.

How competitive or likely are the opportunities to get a fee waiver, categorical concessions, or scholarships in M Sc in Physics course?

There are also strong concessions in government colleges to SC/ST/OBC and economically weaker category students which may even be 100 percent in some colleges. The scholarships of the private colleges are primarily merit or high level of entrance scores which are slim and very competitive.

What are the costs of distance or online M Sc in Physics programs in comparison to the full-time programs?

Sometimes distance or online M Sc in Physics courses can be very affordable even as low as INR 20000 - 40000 rupees a year compared to the on campus counterpart. They can however have limited access to the laboratory and campus career services.

What are the usual documents required towards payment of fee and availing concession in M Sc in Physics programs?

During payment, students are expected to appear with graduation transcripts, evidence of reserved category or income (in case of scholarship) and allotment/admission letter and in many cases original certificates. Incomplete documents may disrupt or stall the processing of admission.

Does the government M Sc in Physics programs involve a security/caution deposit and what happens at the end of the course?

Most government run universities have a caution deposit (also called security deposit) which is made to guarantee punctuality, and in normal cases this is made along with the 1 st semester fee and refunded after final examinations. Usually this is between 5000 to 10,000 INR. In government universities in Tripura and Delhi, caution deposit before entry into specific courses are 10000 and 5000 apart respectively. This is in most cases returned upon graduation, less the lab breakage or library fines, although this is a slow process, unless a student is pro-active in monitoring the process.

What are the implications of hostel and accommodation, meal plan, and requirements of out-of-town M Sc in Physics students in the overall financial investment?

In colleges such as Delhi University, a stay at the hostels and the cost of meals may easily be more than the tuition (e.g. hostel + mess about 2.85 lakh per annum as compared to less than 26000 per annum tuition fee). Hostel allotments are not always provided to all the admits, and consequently, last-hour arrangements in case of accommodation in metro cities may drive the cost of living up, higher than what is initially charged as a part of the Total Fees.
