SBI Clerk 2025 Vacancies 2025: Regular and Backlog Vacancies, Previous Years Vacancies

• Updated on 17 Sept, 2025 by Kollegeapply

SBI Clerk 2025 Vacancies 2025: State Bank of India (SBI) has declared that there are 6,589 vacancies open for the post of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) as part of the SBI Clerk 2025 recruitment drive. This total includes regular posts as well as backlog posts, which the bank released in separate lists for each state and category. Candidates are required to select only a single state or UT (union territory).

Along with this, the candidate must also be knowledgeable about the local language (which includes reading, writing, speaking, and understanding) of the selected state or UT. Once appointed to a position, the candidates are not allowed to request a switch to a different state or circle as SBI has policies against inter-state and inter-circle transfers for clerical posts.

The selection process consists of three stages: Preliminary Exam (screening), Mains Exam (final shortlisting), and a Local Language Test (applicable to those without proof of having studied the local language). Only candidates who qualify for the mains exam and local language tests will be considered and ultimately eligible for selection.

SBI Clerk Vacancy 2025 FAQs

How many total vacancies have been announced in SBI Clerk 2025?

The State Bank of India has announced 6,589 vacancies for Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) under the SBI Clerk 2025 recruitment. This number includes 5,180 regular vacancies, 1,409 backlog vacancies, and 50 vacancies under a special recruitment drive. The vacancies are distributed state-wise and category-wise across India.

How many regular vacancies are available this year?

SBI has released 5,180 regular vacancies for 2025. These vacancies are distributed among states and union territories depending on the manpower needs of the bank. Candidates can only apply for one state, and they will be considered for vacancies in that state and its category-specific distribution (General, SC, ST, OBC, or EWS).

What are backlog vacancies in SBI Clerk?

Backlog vacancies are reserved posts from previous recruitment cycles that could not be filled due to various reasons like lack of eligible candidates. These vacancies are carried forward and added to the next notification. For 2025, SBI has announced 1,409 backlog vacancies, distributed across different states under SC, ST, OBC, PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities), and Ex-Servicemen categories.

Can a selected candidate be transferred to another state or circle?

No. As per SBI’s rules, clerical cadre employees, once appointed, cannot be transferred to another state or circle. Candidates are therefore advised to carefully apply for vacancies in their preferred state/UT because they will have to continue working there throughout their service.

Is knowledge of the local language compulsory for SBI Clerk 2025?

Yes, knowledge of the local language is mandatory. Candidates must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the language of the state they apply for. If they do not have documentary proof of having studied the language in school or college, they must appear for the Local Language Test after the mains examination. Failing this test will disqualify them from final selection.

Who gets priority in ex-servicemen backlog vacancies?

Within SBI Clerk backlog seats for ex-servicemen, the first preference goes to disabled ex-servicemen. If those seats remain vacant, then they are offered to the dependents of servicemen who lost their lives in action or were critically disabled with over 50% disability attributable to defense services.

Are OBC Creamy Layer candidates eligible for reservation?

No. The OBC reservation in SBI Clerk recruitment is strictly applicable only to candidates from the Non-Creamy Layer category. OBC candidates who fall in the Creamy Layer are not entitled to reservation or relaxation benefits. They must apply under the General category (or General with PwBD, if applicable).
