Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a 5.5-year professional qualification spanning 4 and a half years of academic learning and a one year compulsory rotating internship. Admission to MBBS in Himachal Pradesh is purely on the basis of NEET-UG but it is in a standard uniform manner that is based on merit.
The state counselling authority of the 85 per cent Himachal Pradesh State Quota is the Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), Himachal Pradesh. The NEET-UG should be passed by all students including those aspiring to take places in well-known colleges such as Himachal Pradesh University and others to be taken to the centralized online counselling by AMRU.
This is done to ensure that there is equitable distribution of seats taking into account the reservation policy, domicile and merit problems.
