The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) or the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBs) degree is an undergraduate professional degree in medicine. It is a 5.5-year course with a one-year mandatory internship, and includes theoretical study and practical knowledge in the field of medical science, surgery, and taking care of patients. On completion, graduates are eligible to be registered as doctors with the Medical Council of India or state medical councils, and they can work as licensed medical practitioners.

The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, is a medical college run by the central government, and, therefore, the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program is done under the All India Quota (AIQ) under the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
