Is 500 a Good Score in CUET? Percentile, DU & BHU Colleges

500 in CUET is a workable score, but it does not guarantee a seat. Whether it is enough depends on the course you want. No score, 500 or 800, guarantees you a seat at Delhi University (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) or anywhere else.

Lakhs of students register for CUET UG every year, so competition is real. Four things really decide it. What your score is out of. Which subjects your course counts. Your category. And how that university hands out seats, programme by programme.

Start with the scale. 500 out of 750 is 66.67%. Out of 1,000, it is 50%. Neither figure is your percentile, as explained below.

Generic "marks vs college" charts shared on WhatsApp and Telegram are not reliable. Once NTA releases scorecards, each university publishes its own rules and seat data, and that is the data to use.

Is 500 a Good Score in CUET? What Counts as a Good CUET Score

500 is a workable score. Whether it is good enough depends on the scale and the course. Most universities do not total every paper you wrote. They pick the subjects relevant to the programme and count only those.

The table below shows 500 and nearby scores on different scales.

The formula is score ÷ maximum marks × 100. The result is a percentage, not a percentile.

500 Marks in CUET Percentile: CUET Marks vs Percentile Explained

There is no fixed conversion from 500 marks to a percentile. Any site claiming 500 equals the 80th or 90th percentile is estimating.

Three terms are often confused:

• Percentage is the share of maximum marks you scored.
• Percentile shows how you did compared to others, based on the scoring method used.
• University admission score is the number a university uses to rank eligible applicants for a course.

For example, 500 out of 750 is 66.67%. That does not mean you scored better than 66.67% of candidates.

How Many Correct Answers Make 500 Marks in CUET?

Each paper has 50 questions at 5 marks each, so 250 marks. The table works backwards from a 500 total to the score needed per paper:

These are raw marks, before normalisation, so your scorecard may differ a little. Negative marking matters here. On a 3-paper scale, attempting all 50 questions means you need 37 correct instead of 34, because the 13 wrong answers cost 13 marks.

Is 510 or 520 a Good Score in CUET?

On the same scale, 510 or 520 is better than 500. However, 10 or 20 extra marks do not raise your percentile by a fixed amount or guarantee a college.

Compare scores only when they are out of the same total. To judge your chances, put your programme score next to the university's allocation data, then double-check subject and Class 12 requirements.

In terms of answers, 10 marks equals 2 more correct answers on questions you would otherwise skip. Turning one wrong answer into a correct one is worth 6 marks.

20 marks can decide a seat. In DU's 2026–27 Round 1, BA Programme (Education + Political Science) at Aditi Mahavidyalaya closed at 481.0024. A 500 cleared it by 19 marks; a 470 did not.

Which Colleges Can You Get with 500 Marks in CUET?

DU Colleges for 500 Marks in CUET: 2026–27 Round 1 Cutoffs

These are 2026–27 numbers, so read them as a trend, not a prediction. Each figure is the lowest score that got a seat in that programme, for that category, in that round. Not a cutoff for the whole college.

Aryabhatta College shows how much the course matters. BA (Hons) Hindi closed at 433.4975 for UR, while Political Science closed at 739.358 and Psychology at 852.5983 at the same college.

DU Category-wise Cutoff for 500 Marks: Daulat Ram College

Category can change the picture significantly. Below are Daulat Ram College's official Round 1 minimum scores across 15 programmes.

At this college, 2 of 15 programmes closed under 500 for UR, 2 for OBC-NCL, 5 for SC and 8 for ST. An ST candidate with 500 had four times as many options as a UR candidate with the same score. BA (Hons) Hindi (404.236) and BA (Hons) Sanskrit (195.4136), not shown above, also closed under 500 for UR.

Can I Get DU with 500 Marks in CUET?

Yes, for some programmes. Several closed below 500 in recent rounds. Before treating any course as a real option, check:

1. Did you take the CUET subjects that programme needs?
2. Do you meet its eligibility conditions?
3. Does the allocation score apply to your category?
4. Which admission round is the score from?
5. Are there further allocations or spot-round notices?

DU admissions run on CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System). Taking CUET does not mean you have applied to DU; you must register on CSAS separately.

Can I Get BHU with 500 Marks in CUET?

A 500 does not rule you out at BHU, and it does not guarantee a seat. The same factors apply as at DU: the programme, its required subjects, your category, the score BHU uses and the round.

BHU releases course-wise allocation details every year. One example from Regular Round 1 of the 2026 cycle: BA (Hons.) Economics with Minor in Geography at the Faculty of Social Sciences closed at 368.3844 for General candidates.

That's one programme, one category, one round. It should not be applied to other Arts, Commerce or Science courses. Avoid comparing BHU and DU numbers directly until you know how each university calculates its score.

DU publishes minimum allocation scores for every college, programme and category after each round. Below is a sample from its official 2026–27 Round 1 list. The last column shows how far above (+) or below (−) a 500 would have landed.

DU BSc Cutoffs Close to 500 Marks in CUET

Physics and Chemistry at some of DU's best-known colleges closed within a few marks of 500 in the same round.

A 500 would have cleared Round 1 Physics at Kirori Mal College and Chemistry at Hansraj College and Miranda House, for students with the required subject combination.

BHU Cutoff CUET: Official Round 1 Example

BHU publishes course-wise cutoffs on its admission portal after every round. In the 2026 cycle, BA (Hons) Economics with Minor in Geography at the Faculty of Social Sciences closed at 368.3844 for General candidates in Regular Round 1. BHU's maximum marks vary by programme, so check the scale before you read a 500 against its numbers.

If you're comparing years, match everything: university, programme, category, round. A DU Round 1 score and a BHU spot-round score aren't measuring the same thing.

CUET Result Date and Scorecard

NTA announces CUET UG results through an official scorecard notice. Recently that's been June or July. In 2026 it was June 23.

For this year's result date, rely on NTA's official notice rather than "expected date" articles. Our CUET UG page keeps track of updates.

Once your scorecard is out, write down the subject scores that count for your courses. Then go to each university's admission page for eligibility, registration, preferences and allocation.

The result and admission are separate steps. Your scorecard won't register you for DU CSAS, BHU's UG process or any other university.

CUET Exam Date, Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

CUET UG is usually held in May, sometimes stretching into early June. In 2026, the bulletin gave May 11–31 as the tentative window. For your year, go by NTA's final notices, especially if dates get shifted.

What to Do After Scoring 500 Marks in CUET

Your next steps depend on two things: which courses you want, and whether those universities are still admitting for the current session.

1. Check your subject-wise scores. Work out which papers count for each course you like.
2. Confirm eligibility. CUET subjects and Class 12 requirements, both of them.
3. Compare the right number. Same programme, same category, same round.
4. Keep checking notices. Registration, allotment, vacancy and spot-round updates come out fast.
5. Don't miss deadlines. Preferences, documents and fees all have last dates.
6. Have a plan B. Look at other options using their own rules.

If your first choice has already closed, look for fresh official notices before assuming there's another round. Spot rounds in past years do not guarantee one this time.

Things move quickly once allocations start. In 2026, DU gave students two days to accept a Round 2 seat and four days to pay, and classes began on July 28, before the Round 2 payment window had even closed.
