Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is a prominent educational and research institution dedicated to the advancement of agriculture and allied sciences. IGKV, which was set up in 1987, is often called the “Pride of the Rice Bowl of India” due to its contribution towards raising the agricultural standards of the region.
Initially, it was a laundry farm known as Labhandi Farm but now is a fully fledged university, having facilities for teaching, research and extension education for the agricultural development of the country. Several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in agriculture and related sciences are offered at IGKV. Their purpose is to provide flexible training for the reformed agricultural sciences and rural development.
Currently, the university has a large academic umbrella with 23 government colleges and 15 self-finance colleges in the state of Chhattisgarh. Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya: Placements 2024
The placement cell of the university conducts training sessions, workshops and campus interviews for the development of placement opportunities for the students. About the 4-year undergraduate programs, the IGKV has placed the students exceedingly well, and this can lead to the following placements. Based on NIRF 2019 data, of the total strength of 1,848 students, only 1,690 students were placed and eligible for placement.
Of them, 1307 got the placement, and the placement percentage of this batch of students was nearly 77 per cent. The average salary, as mentioned for such placements, was to the tune of ₹3,00,000 per annum. Further, 370 respondents pursued higher studies, which pointed to a considerable desire for promotion to a higher level of learning.
The university has also demonstrated a good result in the 2-year postgraduate programs which are also offered by this institution. A similar report from NIRF 2019 shows that the college enrolled 428 students, of which 407 were qualified for placements and attained placement status 32,7, meaning that the placement rate of the college is approximately 80%.
405 postgraduate students got placements in various companies, with an average annual salary of ₹4,45,000, as per the report indicating that education in Agriculture at a higher level is worth it.
