Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is a prominent educational and research institution dedicated to the advancement of agriculture and allied sciences. IGKV, which was set up in 1987, is often called the “Pride of the Rice Bowl of India” due to its contribution towards raising the agricultural standards of the region.
Initially, it was a laundry farm known as Labhandi Farm but now is a fully fledged university, having facilities for teaching, research and extension education for the agricultural development of the country. Several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in agriculture and related sciences are offered at IGKV. Their purpose is to provide flexible training for the reformed agricultural sciences and rural development.
Currently, the university has a large academic umbrella with 23 government colleges and 15 self-finance colleges in the state of Chhattisgarh.
