Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan New Delhi, established in 1970, was instituted under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to promote and preserve the Sanskrit language and literature. In March 2020, it became known as a central university and was renamed Central Sanskrit University (CSU) (as per the enactment of the Central Sanskrit Universities Act, 2020). Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan New Delhi provides a special merit Scholarship for Sanskrit students (Grade 9-PG, ≤60%), allowing a monthly compensation of ₹250 to ₹800. For candidates into Vedic studies (excellent academics), the university provides ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 per month. SC/ST/OBC and PwD candidates get fee reimbursement based on income and certified disability. Many state and central government scholarships provide fee and maintenance allowance to the minimum 40% disability certified (Maharashtra), SC, ST, OBC with income ≤ ₹2.5 lakh (Haryana), etc. ST students can avail of 100% fee and allowance with M.Phil./Ph.D. & income <₹6 LPA.
