WBJEE Merit List 2026: GMR and PMR Explained

WBJEEB releases two separate merit lists with the result, and which one applies to candidates depends entirely on what candidates are applying for. If candidates are applying for pharmacy at Jadavpur University, use the GMR. If candidates are applying for pharmacy at any other West Bengal college, use the PMR. Both ranks appear on the rank card if applicable. Reserved category ranks for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD, EWS, and TFW candidates are also shown on the rank card, but seat allotment during counselling is processed using GMR or PMR as the primary rank with category-based seat reservations applied from that pool. Knowing this before counselling begins helps candidates read the rank card correctly and fill choices in the right category.

  • General Merit Rank (GMR) covers admissions to engineering, technology, architecture, and the pharmacy programme, specifically at Jadavpur University. This rank is based on total marks across all three subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) covers pharmacy admissions at all other colleges except Jadavpur University. This rank is based only on Physics and Chemistry marks. Mathematics is not counted for PMR.

WBJEE Marks vs Rank 2026

The marks vs rank analysis gives candidates a working estimate of where the score is likely to place them in the merit list. This is especially useful in the period between result declaration and counselling, when candidates need to shortlist colleges and plan the preference list.

WBJEE Result 2026 Tie-Breaking Rules

When two candidates score the same total marks, WBJEEB applies a specific sequence of tie-breaking criteria. The sequence runs through twelve steps before using age as the final decider. Understanding these rules matters if candidates are in a borderline rank situation where a few positions determine college access. The tie-breaking sequence applied by WBJEEB is as follows.

  • First, the candidate with fewer total negative marks across all subjects gets a higher rank.
  • If still tied, higher positive marks in Mathematics and Physics together are compared.
  • If still tied, higher positive marks in Mathematics and Chemistry are compared.
  • If still tied, fewer negative marks in Mathematics and Physics together are compared.
  • If still tied, fewer negative marks in Mathematics and Chemistry are compared.

If none of these breaks the tie, the board moves to question-category-specific comparisons. More positive marks in the 2-mark Mathematics questions, then 2-mark Physics questions, then 2-mark Chemistry questions, each in order. If still tied, fewer negative marks in 2-mark Mathematics questions, then 2-mark Physics questions, then 2-mark Chemistry questions. If the tie remains after all twelve steps, the older candidate by date of birth gets the higher rank.

Can Candidates Challenge the WBJEE Result 2026?

The short answer is that re-evaluation of marks is not available. WBJEEB does not accept requests to recheck or re-evaluate marks or rank after the result is declared. The mechanism for challenging any answer is the provisional WBJEE Answer Key objection window, which opens and closes before the result comes out.

Once the result is declared, there is a 24-hour window for candidates to raise objections. This is unusually short compared to most state entrance exams, so candidates must check their rank card on the day of declaration and act immediately if anything looks wrong. Objections can also be submitted by physically reporting to the WBJEEB office within this period.

After 24 hours, no objections of any kind are accepted. Errors in personal details like name or date of birth should be reported to WBJEEB immediately through official communication channels, as these can affect counselling eligibility.

WBJEE Toppers 2026: Previous Year Statistics

For 2026, the toppers list will be released on the same day as the results at wbjeeb.nic.in. The list typically shows rank holders in the top 10 with their names, schools, and districts. This page will be updated immediately when the 2026 list is out.WBJEE 2025 Rank 1 was secured by Aniruddha Chakrabarti from Don Bosco School, Park Circus, Kolkata. The table below shows the top 10 rank holders from 2022, 2023, and 2024 for reference.

WBJEE Result 2026 Statistics: Previous Years

Knowing how many candidates appeared and qualified gives context for the competitiveness of the exam. The data below covers 2022 through 2024 and shows a consistent upward trend in participation. The table below shows year-wise participation and qualification data.

What to Do Immediately After WBJEE Result 2026?

The period between the result declaration and counselling is short and important. Here is what to prioritise.

  • Download the rank card the day it releases and verify all details immediately. Candidates have only 24 hours to raise any objections after the result is out. Print at least two physical copies and store a digital copy somewhere accessible.
  • Use the GMR to research opening and closing ranks from 2025 counselling for colleges and branches that candidates are interested in. This gives candidates a realistic sense of what is achievable and helps them plan the choice list.
  • If candidates have a JEE Main 2026 rank and are West Bengal domicile candidates, begin tracking WBJEE counselling dates. Candidates are eligible for combined WBJEE counselling and can participate alongside WBJEE rank holders.
  • Prepare all documents for reporting: the rank card itself, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, domicile certificate, category certificate if applicable, and PwD or income certificate if applicable for TFW seats.
