Government Medical College, Haldwani stands as a pioneering medical institution in Uttarakhand, originally established as the Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust Medical College in 1997 before being taken over by the state government in May 2010. Located on a sprawling 90-acre campus on Rampur Road, Haldwani, this institution holds the distinction of being the first postgraduate medical college in Uttarakhand. The college is affiliated with Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), Dehradun and operates a 600-bedded teaching hospital that serves as a referral center for the Kumaon region. Currently offering 125 MBBS seats and approximately 65-74 postgraduate seats across 17 medical disciplines, the institution has been recognized by the National Medical Commission since 2003.

Postgraduate admissions are conducted with 50% seats filled through All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination and the remaining 50% through state-level entrance examinations.
