The National Institute of Homoeopathy, established on 10 December 1975 at Kolkata, functions as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The institute was originally part of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and with time, it has become a central homoeopathic education and research centre.

 

The Institute has been affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and has been awarded the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) degree since 1987. Moreover, it started the Postgraduate course, Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy (MD (Hom.)), in six subjects—Organon of Medicine, Repertory, Materia Medica, Practice of Medicine, Paediatrics, and Homoeopathic Pharmacy—in 1998-99.

 

The institute's infrastructure consists of an auditorium with a seating capacity of 800, a hospital with an outpatient department, and a 100-bedded inpatient department with investigative facilities. The institute offers eight courses under the stream of Medical and Health Sciences and has a total seat intake of 129 for its MD and BHMS courses. Being a government institute located in Kolkata, it offers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programs accredited by the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH).
