The American College, founded by American Missionaries in the year 1881, is one of the institutions in higher education known for its focus on academic excellence and socio-element. Growing from strength to strength, today, the college offers 32 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate programs. There are nine research centers offering MPHIL and PhD programs in various disciplines, and one research library, the Skelett Study Center for Indian Literature in English and Translation, receiving national and international attention.

The PG The Department of English, housed on the first floor of the Centenary block, was built to mark the centenary celebrations of the college in 1981. It offers both Aided and SF programs. The Department flawns a well-equipped PG library to facilitate teaching, learning, and research programs. The Department accommodates an exclusive library with a special collection of rare books of different reputed Tamil scholars.
Well-stocked with the latest books, the PG Library serves as a research center for researchers all over. The library here is an ever-growing unit of knowledge and information catering to the needs of the research community at large. This fully-equipped computer center provides various services to all faculty and students of both campuses of the college.
The PG Department of Psychology is housed in Saunders Hall. It offers MSI Applied Psychology. The Department has a well-equipped library and a computer lab. The Department of Computer Science is housed in the Paul Lindalove Hall, and it offers MSC Computer Science with specialization in data science. A well-equipped computer lab is a highlight to the department. The Master of Computer Application was started in 1993. The department offers MCA programs, both in regular and through lateral entry schemes. The department has a full-fledged lab and a library. The MBA program offered by the department is housed in the satellite campus at Chhatrapati.
