The University of Ladakh, founded in 2019, is India's sole trans-Himalayan higher education and research institute. Having its headquarters in Leh and Kargil, the university runs campuses in both and has six government degree colleges as its constituent units, affiliated under the University of Ladakh Act 2018. The Kargil campus is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which ensures the standards and quality of its technical programs. The university provides a broad spectrum of core and applied academic programs, as well as specialized courses and research opportunities in the Himalayan, trans-Himalayan, and South and Central Asian regions. Having started its first academic session in 2020 with ten postgraduate programs, the university has grown to incorporate more Master's and Ph.D. programs in different disciplines. Master's program admissions are on the basis of undergraduate academic record, and certain courses like B.Ed. can demand entrance tests like the JKBOPEE CET. The Ladakh University is committed to academic excellence, regional growth, and empowering students of the vast Ladakh region, with a vision to contribute to national development through education, research, and social responsibility.
