The University of Ladakh, founded in 2019, is India's sole trans-Himalayan higher education and research institute. Having its headquarters in Leh and Kargil, the university runs campuses in both and has six government degree colleges as its constituent units, affiliated under the University of Ladakh Act 2018. The Kargil campus is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which ensures the standards and quality of its technical programs. The university provides a broad spectrum of core and applied academic programs, as well as specialized courses and research opportunities in the Himalayan, trans-Himalayan, and South and Central Asian regions.
