FAQs

What would be the consequences of merit-based and means-based fee concessions in MSc Botany?

Merit-based concessions demand high academic results, means-based (income or category-based) concessions are available to students of the low income groups. Both programs are able to cut overall fee levels by up to 50 percent, with continued eligibility usually tied to semester grades or annual renewal of the financial documents.

What external funding opportunities are available to the MSc Botany students that they could access outside the university?

Indeed, there are fellowships that students can apply to, such as B.A. Krukoff Fellowship to study abroad, or specific scholarships offered by other organizations like AIMSET. External awards are assigned different applications and may contain a particular requirement, including the focus of research area or domicile.

Does migration/ transfer between universities within the MSc Botany influence the burden of fee?

Most Universities do not acknowledge fee transfer/change in case one migrates in the course of the program. Students also lose their fees paid already, and they have to pay the full admission as well as tuition fee in the new college hence, the need to choose the right college at the first stages itself comes to the fore.

Are tuition hikes during the MSc Botany course communicated in advance?

Although some colleges notify their students of the possible annual increase of the fees (usually 5-15 percent), some colleges can introduce a hike in fees without any warning. Before admission it is recommended that one gets it in writing regarding future fee policies and inquire whether or not there are limits to such increases.

What scholarships actually are available to most MSc Botany students?

There are scholarships available such as the ones provided through the National scholarship portal, Dean Welfare office or the individual plans, however in general there are only a few (approximately 56 per department in big universities) scholarships available every year. To enhance their opportunities, applicants are required to develop strong records particularly the lower-income students or students belonging to the SC/ST.

Do students face challenges in obtaining refunds if they withdraw from the MSc Botany program?

Policies on refund are highly regulated and only the tuition component is refundable within a specified academic deadline. Admission fee, library fees and first semester fees are usually not refunded once classes have commenced. When students join, they should request and keep a written policy officiating refunds.
