CBSE Class 12 eligibility 2027 will be prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education based on a student’s academic continuity, attendance, internal assessment, subject registration, and examination formalities. There is no single qualifying score or entrance cutoff for appearing in the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027 and both regular and private students are required to satisfy several qualification requirements. Students must have completed & passed Class 11, meet the 75% attendance requirement, and be at least 17 years old to become eligible to appear for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027. However, there is no fixed CBSE Class 12 age limit. Regular students are registered for the examination by their schools through the List of Candidates (LOC) process. There are separate eligibility provisions for students appearing as private, compartment, improvement, or additional-subject candidates.

CBSE Class 12 Eligibility 2027

CBSE Class 12 eligibility 2027 is not determined by marks alone and varies for regular and private students. The eligibility requirements for regular students usually include admission, attendance, subject requirements, and submission of the examination application/LOC. The multiple eligibility requirements for the CBSE Class 12 Exams 2027 are provided below:

CBSE Class 12 Eligibility 2027 for Regular Students

CBSE Class 12 eligibility 2027 indicates that a student will not be permitted to normally enter Class 12 directly without completing the required Class 11 education. Regular students seeking to appear for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027 must fulfill the following academic requirements:

  • The student must be enrolled in Class 12 at a CBSE-affiliated school during the 2026–27 academic session.
  • He/she must have completed and passed Class 11. Direct admission to Class 12 without completing Class 11 will not be permitted
  • Class 11 must have been completed from a CBSE-affiliated school or an institution recognised as equivalent under applicable CBSE provisions.
  • The school must have submitted the student’s name through the List of Candidates (LOC). The student's academic and subject details should be correctly maintained by the school.
  • Students must be registered for subjects permitted under the CBSE scheme of studies. The subjects entered in the LOC should match the subjects the student is actually studying and is eligible to appear for.
  • Students must have at least 75% attendance in Classes XI and XII.
  • They must complete the required internal assessments, practicals, or projects.
  • The school must submit the final LOC and examination fee.

CBSE Class 12 Two-Year Study Requirement 2027

For regular students, Classes 11 and 12 are treated as one continuous programme by the CBSE, which implies that a student will not be allowed to register directly for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027 without completing Class 11 through a CBSE-recognised institution. Therefore, a student must complete Class 11 from a CBSE-affiliated school. It is mandatory for the student to pass Class 11 before registering for Class 12 through the prescribed school registration process. It is crucial that the student maintains his/her details and subject details across Class 11 and Class 12 academic records.

CBSE Class 12 Attendance Requirement 2027

The minimum CBSE Class 12 attendance requirement for Regular students is 75%. Students with 75% attendance or above are eligible to appear for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027. Students with attendance below 75% without an accepted reason may be placed in the Essential Repeat category and prevented from appearing in that year's examination. However, if students with attendance below 75% furnish proper documentation, relaxation may be considered according to applicable CBSE provisions.

CBSE Class 12 Internal Assessment & Practical Examination 2027

Internal assessments including periodic tests, assignments, projects, laboratory work, presentations, etc. must be completed by the students to become eligible for CBSE Class 12 exam 2027. Students failing to participate in internal assessments may be placed in the Essential Repeat category. Practical examinations are similarly compulsory for subjects that contain a practical component, such as science, computer-related disciplines or other practical-based courses. It is mandatory for the students to complete laboratory work prescribed by the school, practical records and files, projects and viva voce requirements, and appear for the practical examination conducted according to the school or CBSE schedule.

CBSE Class 12 Registration and LOC Eligibility 2027

Regular students do not normally register individually with CBSE for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2027. Their affiliated school submits their details through the List of Candidates, commonly called the LOC, through the CBSE Pariksha Sangam portal. On the other hand, private candidates generally apply directly through the official CBSE process rather than being registered by a regular school through the LOC.

The CBSE Class 12 registration for Regular students includes the following steps:

  1. The student provides the required information to the school.
  2. The school verifies the student's academic and subject details.
  3. The school submits the student's information through the LOC process.
  4. CBSE processes the submitted candidate details.
  5. The registered information is subsequently used for examination-related documents and records.

The school is responsible for submitting accurate candidate information within the notified period. The LOC submission typically includes information such as:

  • Student name and personal details
  • Subjects selected for the examination
  • School and candidate information
  • Eligibility and attendance-related records
  • Examination category
  • Other details required by the Board

CBSE Class 12 Subject Continuity and Additional Subjects 2027

CBSE Class 12 subjects are generally expected to continue from the combination registered in Class 11. A student is not allowed to normally make changes to the complete stream or freely replace subjects midway through the academic programme. Students should make requests through the school well before the LOC is submitted. Before finalising subjects, students should consider whether the school offers the selected subject, whether a qualified teacher is available, whether the subject is approved by CBSE, and whether the subject can be studied for the complete two-year period. A student can also opt for one additional subject in Class 12 if the school has the necessary CBSE approval, a qualified teacher and the subject has been studied across the required period.

CBSE Class 12 Two-Exam Structure 2027

The CBSE Class 12 main board examination is generally held between February and April, while a second examination is conducted for improvement for students who have already passed and want to improve their scores in up to three main subjects. The improvement examination is different from compartment or Essential Repeat provisions. The Improvement exam is for students who have already passed Class 12 but are seeking higher marks. The Compartment exam is conducted for students required to reappear in one or two subjects after not clearing them. Students who do not satisfy certain academic, attendance or assessment-related requirements are placed on Essential Repeat.

CBSE Class 12 Eligibility 2027 for Private Candidates

CBSE Class 12 eligibility 2027 for Private students will be governed by the rules of the specific category under which they apply. All of them do not have the same eligibility conditions or examination choices. Private candidates are generally not required to meet the regular-school attendance condition because they are not enrolled as regular students for that session. Female candidates living in the NCT of Delhi and physically disabled candidates can also appear privately by providing proper documents to support their application. The main categories of Private students include the following:

CBSE Class 12 Eligibility 2027 for Students Changing Boards

Students joining a CBSE-affiliated school from another board are required to submit a valid Transfer Certificate (TC) from the previous school, where applicable, before the student can be included in the school's LOC submission. The Transfer Certificate will help the school verify the student’s previous institution, class completed, board from which the student is transferring, subjects previously studied, and whether the student can be included in the CBSE registration process. Students moving from another board to a new CBSE-affiliated school must keep the following documents ready:

  • Transfer Certificate
  • Previous academic records
  • Class 11 qualification details
  • Other documents requested by the school
  • Proof of recognised/equivalent qualification

Students who have passed Class 10 through NIOS or another board recognised as equivalent by CBSE may generally be considered for Class 12 admission. The final admission by the school will depend on recognition and subject compatibility.

Is There Any Age Limit for Class 12 CBSE 2027?

No fixed lower and upper age limit has been specified by CBSE for appearing in Class 12 exam 2027, unlike many entrance examinations. However, students are generally expected to be at least 17 years old. CBSE Class 12 eligibility 2027 is determined primarily by completion of the required academic programme, Class 11 qualification, attendance, internal assessment and practical exam performance, and correct registration and documentation.
