What is CUET 2026?

CUET 2026 is India's single entrance exam for undergraduate admissions across 250+ universities, from Delhi University and BHU to JNU and many other private institutions. The National Testing Agency conducts it once a year, and this year, nearly 15.69 lakh students have registered, making it one of the largest entrance tests in the country.

The 2026 edition brings some significant changes. The number of available subjects has been cut from 63 to 37. Students can now choose any subject regardless of what they studied in Class 12. And 2026 is the first year where all papers run for a flat 60 minutes, no exceptions.

CUET 2026 Highlights

CUET is conducted by the National Testing Agency annually for UG admission to central, state, private, and deemed universities. It is conducted in the Computer-based Test (CBT) mode, for a 60-minute duration for each section. Given below is a quick highlight of CUET 2026 Exam:

CUET 2026 Important Dates

CUET UG 2026 Exam Date was from May 11 to 31, 2026, and a re-test was conducted from June 6 to 7, 2026, for the affected candidates. With the conclusion of the exam, the provisional answer key was released on June 9, 2026. Check out the table below for CUET 2026 Dates:

CUET Answer Key 2026

NTA released the CUET UG 2026 final answer key on June 21, 2026. The provisional key was out on June 09, 2026. Candidates could challenge any answer key by paying INR 200 per question. After resolving challenges, the final CUET 2026 Answer Key is published. Here’s how students can download the answer key:

  • Visit the official website, nta.ac.in or cuet.nta.nic.in.
  • Click on the ‘CUET 2026 Answer Key’.
  • The CUET 2026 Answer Key will be displayed on the screen.
  • Download and save it for future use.

CUET Result 2026

CUET 2026 Result has been announced on June 23, 2026. The candidates can check and download their CUET 2026 Results through the website using their login credentials, i.e., Application Number and password. The scorecard will show: section-wise score, overall score, and percentile. This scorecard is what students need to submit to universities during the admission/counselling process. A total of 11,64,098 candidates appeared out of 15,68,867 registered candidates for CUET UG 2026 exam.

CUET Cutoff 2026 (Expected)

NTA doesn't set a cutoff. Each university sets its own cutoffs based on the number of applicants, seat availability, and category reservation. Based on 2025 data, here are CUET 2026 Expected Cutoffs from popular Delhi University colleges:

CUET Counselling 2026

There is no centralised CUET counselling. Each university runs its own admission process. After the results are out, candidates will need to:

  1. Check participating universities' official websites for their admission schedule.
  2. Students can also apply separately to each university they want to be considered for; CUET scores are not auto-forwarded.
  3. Students must attend document verification and pay the admission fee if a seat is allotted to them.

The documents required for counselling:

  • CUET 2026 scorecard
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
  • Valid photo ID
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), if applicable
  • Migration certificate (if from a different board)

Check CSAS CUET Counselling for admission into the University of Delhi.

What Is a Good Score in CUET 2026?

The good score in CUET 2026 depends heavily on which university and program students are targeting. A score that gets students into DU's BA Economics at Miranda House is very different from what students need for a BSc program at a state university. Here's a realistic breakdown based on 2025 cutoffs:

For DU specifically: Based on 2025 data, Miranda House BSc Chemistry unreserved cutoff was 495 marks. BSc Mathematics at Miranda House was 758 marks. BA Economics at Miranda House was 850 marks. These are top-of-market numbers; most DU colleges will have lower cutoffs.

Students should check the CUET 2026 Marks vs Rank analysis to understand the expected rank for their score and estimate their chances of admission to top colleges.

Universities That Accept CUET 2026

CUET scores are accepted by 250+ universities. The list includes every major central university, many state universities, and a growing number of private institutions. A full participating university list is available on cuet.nta.nic.in. Listed below are the CUET 2026 Accepting Colleges that students can get into:

CUET Analysis 2026

So far, the overall difficulty level of the CUET 2026 exam has been rated moderate for most of the subjects. Candidates can check out the CUET 2026 Analysis provided below, which contains detailed day-wise and subject-wise analysis:

What's New in CUET 2026?

For the year 2026, the NTA has brought many upgrades for the CUET exam. Here's exactly what changed this year:

  • Subjects reduced from 63 to 37: NTA trimmed the list significantly. The discontinued subjects are Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics. Students who would have applied for programmes in these areas will now be assessed through the General Aptitude Test instead.
  • No stream restriction: This is the big one. Earlier, students were expected to choose domain subjects aligned with their Class 12 stream. From 2026 onwards, there's no such restriction; a student from the science stream can choose History or Economics as a domain subject if a university programme requires it.
  • All papers are exactly 60 minutes: Previously, paper durations varied. Now every subject language, domain, or general runs for 60 minutes with 50 compulsory questions.
  • CBT only: CUET has dropped the pen-and-paper option entirely. The exam is fully computer-based across all centres.

CUET UG Exam Pattern 2026

CUET UG 2026 consists of three sections, depending on the subjects selected by the candidate. The sections included in this exam are Language Test, Domain Subjects, and General Test. The details related to CUET 2026 Exam Pattern are provided below:

CUET UG Marking Scheme 2026

The marking scheme for CUET 2026 Exam includes negative marking of 1 for each incorrect answer. For each correct answer, students are awarded 5 marks. The marking scheme for CUET 2026 is tabulated below:

Note: Candidates may appear for multiple papers in a single shift window depending on their selected subjects and exam schedule.

CUET Syllabus 2026

The CUET UG 2026 syllabus is primarily based on the NCERT Class 12 curriculum for domain subjects. Students who have studied their Class 12 textbooks thoroughly already have a strong foundation for the examination. Students can check out CUET Syllabus 2026 is provided below for students’ reference:

Section I — Language Test

The Language Test for CUET Exam 2026 include Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability, Grammar & Vocabulary. More details are tabulated below:

Check out the important topics for the domain subjects in the table below:

CUET Preparation Tips 2026

The candidates who are aiming for the CUET 2026 Exam must have set their preparation goals. The candidate who has not yet started their preparation and is confused about where to start can refer to the points for CUET Preparation Tips 2026 listed below for their clarification:

For domain subjects: Students must go back to NCERT Class 12 chapters for their subjects. CUET questions are directly drawn from this material.

For the General Test: Candidates should spend 20–30 minutes each day on current affairs (last 6 months), basic arithmetic and data interpretation, and logical reasoning puzzles. The GT rewards breadth, not depth.

For the Language section: Students should practice reading comprehension with a timer. The comprehension passages are the most time-consuming part, so if they are a slow reader, this is where they lose minutes.

Mock tests: NTA provides free CUET Mock Tests on the official website. Candidates should try to do at least 3–4 full subject-length mocks before their exam date.

Negative marking: Students must not attempt questions they're genuinely clueless about. With 1 for a wrong answer on a 5-mark scale, random guessing can cost them expected value.

CUET Recommended Books 2026

For an effective preparation of CUET 2026, students must refer to books that contain enough practice questions and concept clarity. Some recommended titles include Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis. Candidates may refer to the listed books for their preparation:

Students should check the CUET 2026 Books to prepare with the right study material and understand important topics.

CUET Eligibility 2026

Candidates who wish to appear for CUET must ensure that they meet all the required eligibility criteria. The CUET 2026 Eligibility Criteria is prescribed by the NTA and it includes the age limit, academic qualifications, and nationality criteria. Check below for CUET Eligibility Criteria.

  • Students must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board, or be appearing for Class 12 in 2026.
  • There is no age limit.
  • Indian nationals, NRIs, and OCI cardholders are all eligible.
  • No minimum percentage is set by NTA, but individual universities set their own cut-offs and eligibility for specific programmes.

Note: DU's BA Economics might require a minimum of 75% in Class 12 from the relevant stream, regardless of the CUET score. Hence, students must check the program-level eligibility on the specific university's website before applying.
