Examination Pattern & Assessment at DU SOL
DU SOL's flexible and rigorous examination system combines academic excellence with distance-learning convenience. Semester-based examinations assess comprehensive understanding through Internal Assessments (online MCQs) and End-of-Semester Exams. Students appear at designated examination centres during scheduled periods (November-December and April-May), eliminating geographical constraints.

Re-evaluation & Re-exam Rules at DU SOL
The School of Open Learning has clear provisions for the safeguarding of academic integrity and opportunities for students to review or appeal examination results.
- Revaluation: Students who are not satisfied with their marks can apply for revaluation of the answer script within 15 days of result declaration for ₹1,000 per paper. A formal handwritten application is required and must be duly forwarded by the head of the department. Students have to accept the revised marks given, which can be above, equal, or below that already awarded; if there is an award variation in both continuous assessments and the sum total of it ranges from 5 to 10 marks, the average will be taken as the final award mark; if the difference in marks exceeds 10, a second revaluation will be done, and the average of two nearest marks will be taken as the final award mark.
- Re-checking: Verification of calculation, question valuation, and mark totalling is allowed within 15 days of the results for ₹1,000 per paper. Answer Script Copies can be obtained 61-75 days after result declaration for ₹750 per paper for personal verification, with reporting of errors to be done within 10 days of collection.
- Reappear: Students failing/absent <40 marks may reappear in the next available semester, i.e., November-December for Odd Semesters and April-May for Even Semesters. Maximum 3 attempts per paper are allowed, carrying current performance only; previous marks are surrendered.
- Improvement Exam: Passed students seeking grade improvement can re-appear in the immediately following semester (one-time permission after Part II completion). Students must surrender previous marks and accept current performance.
- Key Requirements: All applications are to be handwritten; minimum passing marks are 40 per paper and 40 in aggregate per semester. Students have a 5-year examination span from admission; no examinations are permitted beyond this period.
Result Timeline
Results are usually declared within a few weeks after the completion of term-end examinations. Students can check their scores on the student portal.
