Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, known as JIST, is a premier government institute located in Sotai, Jorhat District, Assam. It was established in 1971 as Science College, offering degree courses in three major science subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In 2008, the institute was renamed Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology to widen its academic scope beyond science. Today, JIST is affiliated with the Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) and is approved by AICTE and UGC.
In 2007, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was introduced, offering a professional B.Sc. IT course. This was followed in August 2009 by two new engineering branches Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETC) and Power Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (PE&I).
