In 2008, the institute was renamed Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology to expand its academic offerings. In 2007, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was introduced with a three-year B.Sc. (IT) programme. Later, in August 2009, two engineering branches, Electronics and Telecommunications (ETC) and Power Electronics and Instrumentation (PE&I), were launched.
