The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) was established in 2009 by the Government of Assam. Admission to NLU Assam’s UG and PG programs is through CLAT, followed by a centralised counselling, while the Ph.D. course requires candidates to give the NLUJAA Admission Test, unless exempted (in case of NET, JRF).

 

The university offers 60 seats for UG and 40 for PG, which includes supernumerary and reserved categories as per Assam state norms. Final admission is based on CLAT rank, seat allotment, document verification and the fee payment. NLUJAA reserves seats for Assam-domiciled OBC (NCL), SC and ST (Plains and Hills) candidates, 5 Assam domicile seats within the unreserved category for both UG and PG. Horizontal reservations apply to PwD candidates and additional Assam domicile applicants and supernumerary quotas are allotted for EWS candidates and children of defence personnel posted in Assam.

 

NLUJAA offers a five-year integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) program, a one-year LL.M. program with various specialisations and a Ph.D. in Law. CLAT 2026 is scheduled for 7 December 2025 and CLAT registration starts on 1 August 2025, through the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs).

NLUJAA UG Admission 2025

Admission to most programs is through national-level entrance examinations. The university offers a five-year integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) course that integrates social science subjects with law subjects.

  • To be eligible, candidates need to have a Bachelor's Degree in Law (3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B.) from a UGC-recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD). Selection based on CLAT PG scores.

NLUJAA Ph.D Admission 2025

  • To be eligible for Ph.D. in Law, candidates need to have a Master's Degree in Law from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or its equivalent (50% for SC/ST/PwD).
  • Candidates with a Master's Degree in other disciplines may be admitted if their research interfaces with law.
  • Judges of the High Court or Supreme Court of India with three years' experience, or qualified Company Secretaries/Chartered Accountants whose research interfaces with law, are also eligible.

NLUJAA Application Process 2025

The admission process for NLUJAA primarily relies on national-level entrance examinations for its flagship programs.

  • Admission to B.A. LL.B. and LL.M. is through CLAT
  • For Ph.D. program, candidates have to appear for the NLUJAA Admission Test, unless exempted (in case of NET, JRF).
  • Candidates need to apply through the CLAT Consortium portal for UG and PG programs, and directly to NLUJAA for Ph.D. program, with a research proposal.
