BSc Perfusion Technology FAQs

In what ways is a perfusionist different from a cardiac surgeon?

A perfusionist is a health professional who works in the healthcare industry, whose main job is to operate heart and lung machines during any type of extensive surgery; on the other hand, a cardiac surgeon is a person who is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases.

Is it possible for Perfusion technologists to work in the ICU?

Yes. Many Perfusion technologists work in the ICUs and assist in emergencies. They are also involved in working rigorously in critical care and patient care units.

Are internships compulsory while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Perfusion Technology?

While not mandatory, internships can boost the skill set of individuals who want to become great perfusion technologists in the future. Many colleges and universities offer internships during their course curriculum, and some of them also require individuals to pursue internships right after their graduation. This enhances their practical skill and knowledge expertise and adds to their skill set.

Is being a perfusionist a tough job?

Perfusion Technologists operate in extremely tough, high-pressure, and challenging work environments. Their unpredictable schedules, including both day and night, require working in emergencies, which requires great mental and physical resilience.
