B Tech in Industrial Design is an undergraduate course that combines engineering, design thinking, creativity, and technology to design products, systems, and experiences for practical purposes. Conducted by top institutions such as NIT Rourkela, the curriculum incorporates core subjects in mechanical, electrical, and computer science along with design principles, aesthetics, ergonomics, and communication. In the first semester, students learn technical skills through classes like Engineering Mechanics, Math, Programming, and Physics/Chemistry labs, and exposure to introductory design.

 

B Tech Industrial Design continues, the emphasis is made on applied and creative learning through different subjects which include Design Thinking, Product Design, Simulation Labs and Industrial Design Projects. Students participate in studio learning technology, artificial intelligence/machine learning and practical workshops. The curriculum is also made up of Value-Added Courses, Multidisciplinary/Cluster Electives, and Capstone Projects that encourage the development of problem-solving and innovation. Unlike other privately owned colleges, the course structure in government colleges, including NIT, is usually more industry and research-centred and designed to equip the graduates with an opportunity to immediately start working in a Product Design, UX/UI, Manufacturing, and Innovation-Driven Company.

NIT Rourkela offers B.Tech in Industrial Design syllabus with a solid grounding in the science of Engineering, Design Principles, and Technical Proficiency.
