B.Tech Petrochemical Technology will help the student have a detailed knowledge of the chemical processes and engineering principles in conversion of raw petroleum products and natural gas into valuable petrochemicals. During the first semesters, students are offered basic courses in Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and the introductory course in Chemical Engineering. These introductory courses provide a solid foundation in general scientific and engineering principles that allows the students to begin focusing on more specific study.

 

As the students move to the middle semesters, the curriculum explores deeper into some core units such as Chemical Reaction Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Process Instrumentation. With these, other subjects of the petrochemicals industry like Petroleum Refining, Petrochemical Processes, Polymer Technology and Industrial Catalysis are presented. The curriculum also includes practical laboratory sessions and mini-projects by which the students get to apply the acquired piece of knowledge to the real processes in the world and master vital technical skills.

 

During the last year, the emphasis moves to elective and high level electives, industry related projects and internship. Each student can specialise in Process Design, Environmental Engineering, Advanced Polymer Science or Safety and Hazard Management. The course curriculum is also designed to promote innovation and problem solving that usually culminates in a final project or dissertation dealing with existing issues in the petrochemical industry.
