BTech Print & Media Technology: Semester Wise Syllabus, Core & Elective Subjects

The BTech in Print and Media Technology is a four-year undergraduate engineering program that combines the principles of printing science, media production, and modern digital technologies. The syllabus provides an understanding of both traditional and contemporary printing methods, including offset, digital, flexography, and gravure printing, along with pre-press and post-press technologies.

 

This syllabus is multidisciplinary and consists of components such as mechanical engineering, electronics, computer applications, design, and material science. Along with core technical courses, students are also introduced to topics such as media management, packaging technology, quality control, and publishing.

 

The syllabus also incorporates laboratory classes, project-based training, internship, and electives through which the students can focus on their field of choice. The curriculum is properly structured with a combination of core courses, electives, value-added training, and industry exposure.

BTech Print & Media Technology Syllabus Structure

The BTech Print & Media Technology is a 4-year course divided into 8 semesters. The course is for 124 credits with around 20 - 24 credits in each semester. The curriculum is divided into 10 types of course categories that are explained below:

Course Category

Description

Humanities and Social Sciences, including Management courses (HSMC)

It includes courses that aim at developing communication skills, ethical understanding, and managerial capabilities. It includes subjects like English, Ethics, Economics, and Management.

Basic Science Courses (BSC)

It includes foundational courses in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics that provide the scientific principles required for understanding core engineering subjects.

Engineering Science Courses (ESC)

These courses introduce students to engineering fundamentals across disciplines such as Mechanics, Electrical, Electronics, and Graphics, bridging theory with application.

Professional Core Courses (PCC)

These are department-specific core subjects that build technical knowledge and expertise in printing technology and related domains.

Professional Elective Courses

These are advanced, specialized courses within the field of study, allowing students to tailor their education to specific interests or career goals.

Open Elective Courses

It is an interdisciplinary course that students can choose from outside their core discipline to broaden their knowledge base and skills.

Internship, Seminar, Project work & Viva Voce

These are practical exposure, real-world industry experience, academic presentations, project development, and final evaluation through viva-voce.

Mandatory Non-credit Courses (P/F) with grade

These courses are required for holistic education, such as the Constitution of India, Environmental Science, and Universal Human Values, graded on a Pass/ Fail basis.

Laboratory sessions & Mini Project

Hands-on lab-based training and short-term project work that enhances practical understanding and implementation skills.

Value Added Course (Optional)

Optional skill-enhancement courses that may include certifications, workshops, or industry-relevant training are not counted toward mandatory credits.
