Indian candidates are required to use DigiLocker during the registration process, while foreign nationals have a separate registration procedure. 1. DigiLocker is mandatory for Indian candidates: An active DigiLocker account with a verified email ID and mobile number is required before starting GATE exam registration. The mobile number must be active to receive OTPs during registration.
2. Verify your documents before GATE registration: Open the Issued Documents section in DigiLocker and ensure that Aadhaar, PAN and other required documents have been fetched correctly and open without errors.
3. Fix document errors before GATE online registration: If a document does not open or is not fetched correctly, delete it and re-verify it with the concerned issuing authority before continuing with the GATE online registration process.

Candidates may sometimes face issues with the DigiLocker consent page or with documents being fetched through GOAPS. Candidates need to follow the following steps to resolve DigiLocker issues:

GATE 2027 Registration for Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals follow a separate GATE exam registration process and should use the registration link specifically provided for foreign candidates. They need to enter their name exactly as mentioned on their photo identification, provide their email address and mobile number, and complete the registration using the foreign nationals section.

Foreign candidates must also complete the required photograph, signature, face capture, examination, degree and personal details before submitting the application. After reviewing the form, candidates must complete the declaration, verify the application, download the application PDF and proceed with fee payment.

Foreign national candidates must carry their passport for verification on the day of the examination. Candidates who fail to produce the required passport may not be permitted to appear for the test.

What Candidates Should Check Before GATE 2027 Registration

GATE 2027 Registration Fee

The registration fee structure for GATE 2027 as officially specified by IIT Madras is as follows:

NOTE: These Application fees are for a single test paper. Candidates opting for two papers have to pay twice the above mentioned fees.

GATE 2027 Application Fee Details:

• Payment Mode: The application fee must be paid online only through the official GOAPS portal via Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, E-Wallet, or UPI. No offline payment modes (such as Demand Draft, Cash, or Bank Challan) are accepted.
• Refund Policy: The registration fee is non refundable and non transferable under any circumstances, except in cases of double/duplicate payment transactions.
• DigiLocker Verification: Candidates must register using a verified DigiLocker account and complete facial authentication as mandated for GATE 2027.

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

How to Fill the GATE 2027 Application Form?

Candidates can complete the GATE 2027 application process online through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal available on the official website (GATE 2027 registration link). As per the revised schedule released by IIT Madras, the registration process is going to start, and it will remain open until September 27, 2026 without a late fee, and till October 5, 2026 with a late fee.

GATE 2027 Two Paper Combinations

Candidates are allowed to give two attempts for GATE 2027 test papers. Those opting for two papers must select one paper as the primary paper and choose the second paper from the combinations permitted by IIT Madras.

Important Points About GATE 2027 Two Paper Combinations

• Candidates choosing two papers must select a primary GATE exam paper and a secondary paper from the table above.
• Only the listed combinations are available during the initial regular and extended registration windows. IIT Madras may introduce additional combinations later, subject to infrastructure and scheduling feasibility.
• The examination centre for the secondary paper may be different from that of the primary paper, but both centres will be located in the same city.
• IIT Madras may remove certain combinations later because of unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, the fee paid for the second paper will be refunded.

GATE 2027 Admit Card Requirements

Candidates must upload the photograph and signature strictly according to the specifications prescribed by IIT Madras. The same photograph uploaded during registration will appear on the GATE 2027 Admit Card and Scorecard.

GATE 2027 Special Provisons

IIT Madras has issued special provisions for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and dyslexic candidates appearing for GATE 2027 in accordance with the Government of India guidelines under O.M. F. No. P-13013/75/2023-Policy-DD-III dated August 01, 2025. Eligible candidates can avail facilities such as scribe assistance, compensatory time, and magnified question papers, subject to the submission of valid certificates.

• GATE 2027 will follow the latest Government guidelines for PwD candidates.
• Eligible PwD candidates can avail scribe and compensatory time facilities by submitting valid certificates.
• Dyslexic candidates can also apply for scribe assistance and extra time.
• Visually challenged candidates can request a magnified question paper at the exam centre.
• Requests for a scribe or extra time must be made during the application process only.

Facilities Available for PwD and Dyslexic Candidates

Important Note: Eligible candidates will be provided a scribe facility and compensatory time as per the prescribed guidelines. Requests for these facilities must be submitted during the application process, as no requests will be accepted on the exam day.
