JEE Main Score Calculator 2027
Enter correct and wrong answers separately for MCQs (Section A) and numerical value questions (NVQs, Section B) in each subject. The NTA bulletin applies −1 to wrong answers in both sections; the switch below lets you remove the numerical penalty if the 2027 bulletin changes it.
| Subject | MCQ correct | MCQ wrong | NVQ correct | NVQ wrong | Score |
| Physics (20 MCQ, 5 NVQ) | 0 | ||||
| Chemistry (20 MCQ, 5 NVQ) | 0 | ||||
| Mathematics (20 MCQ, 5 NVQ) | 0 |
This is a raw score. NTA declares JEE Main results as NTA percentile scores, calculated separately for each shift, so the same raw score can give different percentiles in different shifts.
JEE Main Marking Scheme 2027
| Response | Section A (MCQ) | Section B (Numerical) |
| Correct answer | +4 | +4 |
| Wrong answer | −1 | −1 (as per the NTA bulletin) |
| Not attempted / marked for review only | 0 | 0 |
JEE Main score = (correct × 4) − (wrong × 1), across MCQs and numericals.
Since 2025, Paper 1 has had no optional questions: every subject has 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions, and all 75 must be treated as part of the paper. Wrong numerical answers carry the same penalty as wrong MCQs under the bulletin, so a guessed numerical is riskier than it used to be.
JEE Main Score Calculation: Worked Example
| Subject | MCQ correct | MCQ wrong | NVQ correct | NVQ wrong | Marks |
| Physics | 15 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 60 − 3 + 12 − 1 = 68 |
| Chemistry | 16 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 64 − 2 + 16 − 1 = 77 |
| Mathematics | 12 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 48 − 4 + 8 − 2 = 50 |
| Total | 43 | 9 | 9 | 4 | 195 / 300 |
Without the numerical penalty the same answers would give 199.
JEE Main Paper 1 Exam Pattern 2027
| Subject | Section A (MCQ) | Section B (Numerical) | Total questions | Marks |
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 25 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 25 | 100 |
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 25 | 100 |
| Total | 60 | 15 | 75 | 300 |
3 hours (4 hours for eligible PwD candidates), computer-based test.
Raw Marks vs NTA Percentile Score
JEE Main is held over many shifts with different papers, so NTA does not rank candidates on raw marks directly. For each shift, NTA works out each candidate's percentile: the percentage of candidates in that shift who scored at or below that candidate. These shift-wise percentiles are then merged into one list. This is why a raw score of, say, 180 can be a higher percentile in a tougher shift than in an easier one.
| Score type | What it is | Where you get it |
| Raw marks | Your marks from the response sheet and answer key | This calculator |
| NTA percentile | Your standing within your own shift, merged across shifts | JEE Main scorecard |
| All India Rank | Based on the better of your two session percentiles | Final JEE Main result |
NTA percentile = 100 × (candidates in your shift with raw marks equal to or less than yours) ÷ (total candidates in your shift)
Two sessions: which score counts
Candidates can take one or both sessions. If you take both, NTA uses the better of your two NTA scores for the final merit list and rank. So calculating your raw score after Session 1 helps you decide how much to change in your preparation for Session 2.
How to Use the JEE Main Response Sheet
- Log in to jeemain.nta.nic.in when NTA releases the provisional answer key and recorded responses for your session.
- For each subject, count correct and wrong MCQs and numerical answers.
- Enter them in the calculator; keep the numerical penalty switch on unless the 2027 bulletin changes the rule.
- If you find an error in the key, challenge it within NTA's window, for the fee per question in NTA's notice.
- Recalculate with the final answer key, which NTA uses for the result.
Common Mistakes in Calculating the JEE Main Score
| Mistake | Correct approach |
| Treating numericals as having no negative marking | The NTA bulletin applies −1 to wrong numerical answers too |
| Counting "marked for review" questions as attempted | A question only marked for review, without a saved answer, scores 0 |
| Using the provisional key as final | Recalculate after the final key; dropped questions are given full marks |
| Comparing raw marks across shifts | Compare percentiles, not raw marks, because shift difficulty differs |

FAQs on JEE Main Score Calculator 2027
How do I calculate my JEE Main score?
Multiply your correct answers by 4 and subtract 1 for each wrong answer, in both MCQs and numerical questions. Unattempted questions score zero.
Is there negative marking for numerical questions in JEE Main?
Yes, as per the NTA bulletin, a wrong numerical answer costs 1 mark, the same as a wrong MCQ. Check the 2027 bulletin to confirm.
What is the maximum score in JEE Main Paper 1?
300: 75 questions of 4 marks each, with 100 marks per subject.
How many questions are there in JEE Main Paper 1?
75: 25 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions per subject. There are no optional questions.
What is the NTA percentile in JEE Main?
It is the percentage of candidates in your shift who scored at or below you, calculated shift-wise and merged into one list.
Why do two candidates with the same marks get different percentiles?
Percentiles are calculated within each shift. The same raw score can be a higher percentile in a tougher shift.
Which session score is used for the JEE Main rank?
If you take both sessions, the better of your two NTA scores is used.
When is JEE Main 2027 Session 1?
From 20 to 28 January 2027. Session 2 is from 2 to 7 April 2027.
Is my calculated score my final JEE Main score?
It is a raw estimate. Your official result is an NTA percentile based on the final answer key.
